Projecting Conversions From a Traffic Forecast
Once a campaign has a traffic forecast and an expected conversion rate, the number of conversions it should produce follows directly — useful for setting realistic goals, sizing a sales or fulfillment team, or checking whether a campaign is on pace against expectations partway through.
This uses the same relationship as the conversion rate calculator, just solved for the conversion count instead of the rate itself.
Conversions Formula
Multiply traffic by conversion rate, expressed as a decimal.
Conversions = Visitors × (Conversion Rate ÷ 100)
Worked Example
A campaign expects 5,000 visitors at a 3% conversion rate.
Conversions = 5,000 × 0.03 = 150
Rearranged, the formula solves for traffic or conversion rate instead, which is what the other two modes above do:
Visitors = Conversions ÷ (Conversion Rate ÷ 100)
Conversion Rate = (Conversions ÷ Visitors) × 100
What Affects Your Projection's Accuracy?
- Traffic source mix — conversion rate varies by channel, so a projection based on one channel's rate can be off if traffic mix shifts.
- Seasonality — conversion rate often moves with seasonal buying intent, independent of traffic volume.
- Landing page or offer changes — any change to the destination page invalidates a conversion rate assumption based on the old version.
- Sample size — a conversion rate measured from a small amount of past traffic is a noisier estimate than one from a large, stable sample.
Conversions Calculator FAQ
How do you calculate expected conversions?
Multiply total clicks or visitors by your conversion rate, expressed as a decimal: Conversions = Visitors × (Conversion Rate ÷ 100). Enter your traffic and expected rate above to calculate it instantly.
What conversion rate should I use to project conversions?
Use your own historical conversion rate for the same traffic source and offer if you have it, since conversion rate varies by channel, audience, and landing page. Measure it directly with the conversion rate calculator from past campaign data for the most reliable estimate.
How is this different from the conversion rate calculator?
Same underlying formula. The conversion rate calculator is set up to measure your rate from known traffic and conversions; this page is set up to project a conversion count forward from a traffic forecast and an expected or historical rate.
Can I use this to set a traffic target for a conversion goal?
Yes — switch to the "Clicks / Visitors" mode above, enter your conversion goal and expected rate, and it solves for the traffic needed to hit that goal.
