What Is the 7th CPC?
The 7th Central Pay Commission (7th CPC) is the committee the Indian government set up to revise the pay, pensions, and allowances of central government employees. Its recommendations, effective from January 1, 2016, replaced the old pay-band-and-grade-pay structure with a single pay matrix and introduced a fitment factor to convert 6th CPC basic pay into revised 7th CPC basic pay.
This calculator applies that fitment factor to your pre-revised basic pay to give a quick estimate of your revised basic pay, along with DA, HRA, and transport allowance to arrive at an estimated gross salary.
7th CPC Salary Formula
Revised basic pay is calculated by multiplying the pre-revised basic pay by the fitment factor of 2.57.
Revised Basic Pay = Pre-revised Basic Pay × 2.57
Worked Example
An employee with a 6th CPC basic pay of ₹18,000 (basic + grade pay).
Revised Basic Pay = ₹18,000 × 2.57 = ₹46,260 (matched to the nearest pay matrix cell)
Gross salary then adds Dearness Allowance and House Rent Allowance, both calculated as a percentage of revised basic pay, plus Transport Allowance:
DA = Revised Basic Pay × DA Rate
HRA = Revised Basic Pay × HRA Rate (24% / 16% / 8%)
Gross Salary = Revised Basic Pay + DA + HRA + TA
HRA City Classification
| City Class | Description | HRA Rate |
|---|---|---|
| X | Metro cities (population 50 lakh+) | 24% |
| Y | Tier-2 cities | 16% |
| Z | Tier-3 cities and rural areas | 8% |
Enter your current DA rate above to include it in the gross salary estimate — DA rates are revised periodically and vary by the date of calculation.
7th CPC Calculator FAQ
What is the fitment factor in the 7th Pay Commission?
The 7th CPC fitment factor is 2.57 — the pre-revised (6th CPC) basic pay is multiplied by 2.57 to arrive at the revised basic pay under the 7th Pay Commission pay matrix.
How do I calculate my 7th CPC basic pay?
Multiply your 6th CPC basic pay (including grade pay) by the fitment factor of 2.57. In practice the government then rounds this to the nearest cell in the official 7th CPC pay matrix for your pay level, so this calculator gives a close estimate rather than the exact matrix figure.
What is included in 7th CPC gross salary?
Gross salary typically includes revised basic pay, Dearness Allowance (DA) calculated as a percentage of basic pay, House Rent Allowance (HRA) based on city classification, and Transport Allowance (TA). Other allowances may apply depending on post and location.
What are the HRA city classes under the 7th CPC?
Cities are classified X, Y, or Z. X-class (metro) cities get 24% HRA, Y-class (tier-2) cities get 16%, and Z-class (tier-3/rural) locations get 8%, each calculated on the revised basic pay.
